Recently, I have found an outlet for my creative, absurd-yet-practical, and accessible writing style: the T-shirt world!  “Thomas, how can you write for days and days about t-shirts?  I can’t focus on an essay about Sophist versus Aristotelian thought for more than an hour!”, you might exclaim.  I must admit, I thought the same thing a few months ago.  However, the fashion world, especially the custom fashion world, surprised me entirely.  Not only are styles constantly changing, but every single custom design offers something fresh.  Furthermore, there are even trends to follow in the sphere of custom designs.  Month to month, we will see multiple designs that follow similar templates, and every new trend gives me something interesting and unique about which to think and write.

In my spare time, I am an avid history and film buff.  My favorite history book is Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond.  His fresh take on the underlying causes of all of world history is truly inspiring.  And while my namesake, President Jefferson, was not the biggest fan of ratification, I am an avid student of the U.S. Constitution.  I won’t say exactly where I am on the political spectrum, by my strict interpretation of the Constitution often gets me into trouble!  On the film side of things, I am almost finished watching the American Film Institute’s picks for the 100 best films of all time.  Outside of that, my list of personal favorites includes Wall Street,The Departed, Duck Soup, and Yankee Doodle Dandy.

There’s really something about us here at ooshirts recently.  The inspiration of a new year has us reinvigorated and feeling like veritable superheroes.  Too long we felt like we were going to short circuit with the stress of the end of a year of incredible growth for us, which was exciting and daunting all at once.  However, after the holidays recharge we got, we are truly living the high life around here, and ready to meet any challenge face to face with a reinvigorated spirit!  Much like Captain Janeway from Voyager, when once upon a time we were at home playing with our G.I. Joes and Crescendolls, today we are ready to prevail.  We raise our fists to the sky and proclaim, “Veridis Quo!”

In case you didn’t pick up on it, I love Daft Punk’s groundbreaking album Discovery.  It introduced me (and much of the world, I believe) to the mind-blowing possibilities of electronic music.  And I got into it not a moment too soon; when I first came to college everyone and their mother was sporting a shirt in an effort to prove they were the biggest fan of Daft Punk’s music.  It is a staple of electronic music shows to see the most creative costumes you’ve ever seen, even moreso than on Halloween.  Ton’s of people make or order their own custom shirts for the show.  If you’re going to a show soon, be sure to grab your low-priced custom apparel from us.  I know you’ll love our prices, because those house shows are getting to be as expensive as arena rock shows now.  Haven’t tried us out before?  Check out this ooshirts review to see what others had to say about our quality printing.  Happy Monday folks, and we’ll see you soon.

A. Milne, is the author of the timeless Winnie the Pooh books.  The series stars a kind and simple bear named Winnie the Pooh, Christopher Robin (a boy based on Milne’s own son), and their forest friends, including the famous Tigger.  The Pooh stories, written in the early 1900s, have touched children and adults alike for decades.  With a six year old sister who herself has grown up loving Winnie the Pooh and his friends, it is clear that children for generations to come will no doubt maintain an appreciation for the fun and imaginative adventures in the Hundred Acre Woods.

I absolutely love reading children’s books.  As in right now, as a post-college hot shot, I love picking up a good children’s book.  For starters, they are often much funnier than any adult novel.  And these funny moments are magnified when you read them with a child.  Just recently I was reading Diary of a Wimpy Kid with my sister, and it was a blast!  The kid had to pause to wipe her tears away every other sentence because she was laughing so hard.  I love funny.  I’ve talked about making funny Oscar Wilde shirts in the past.  Not quite children’s story material, but funny nonetheless.

I love starting a new year.  I eat salads for every meal, get to bed early every night, go for runs 6 days a week, and read instead of watching television.  Who cares if all of that will promptly stop in two or so weeks’ time?  The point is that for the next fortnight, things are looking up for the whole world, and it feels good.

Things are looking great here around the office as well.  We got our clip art gallery up and running in the last month and it has been a hit.  Be sure to check that out when you make your customized t-shirts.  If I’m not mistaken, the hilarious cat DJ has been the star of the clip art gallery so far.  If you don’t believe me, go and have a look at it yourself; I dare you not to laugh.

Speaking of awareness week shirts (what?), January might be the sweetest month of all.  The first month of the year is certified as National Thank You Month.  Since it was decided that Thanksgiving just wasn’t enough time to stress the importance of being thankful (it has more of an emphasis on the “full”), the people came together to declare the entire month of January a time to remember to say thank you more often, and to be thankful in general.  This thankfulness should lead to helping others less fortunate than oneself.  National Thank You Month is all about being nice, thankful and helpful.  That’s no doubt something we can all get behind.  Have a great afternoon!

One thing people love to do, besides make their own New Year’s shirts for their parties of course, is make a New Year’s resolution.  A resolution is something that you promise yourself you will do in the coming year, something you will do to better yourself.  Whether it’s going on a run everyday, quitting smoking, learning about t-shirt printing (hint hint), eating more vegetables or reading a new book every month, everyone loves making a good resolution…and then not following through with it, in most cases!  Well, we here at ooshirts headquarters have also made New Year’s resolutions of our own.  Here are just a few of them:

-Make that green
-Learn to play the guitar
-I don’t make them, they suck
-Write a novel
-Invent a new telephone
-Become a better smuggler than Malcolm Reynolds and Han Solo (this one should be easy given Han Solo drops his cargo at the first sign of Imperial activity)
-Watch all of Breaking Bad

I hope everyone had a great Christmas/Hanukkah/Festivus with their families this past weekend.  It’s a really funny thing; I’ve written tons of articles about why you should make your own tshirt or sweater for the holidays, including making custom  sweatshirts for Christmas just like grandma did back in the day.  Well, this weekend when I was home, a good friend of mine did just that for our little reunion of old friends!  I couldn’t help but burst out laughing at the situation.  He was hurt at first, but I cleared the air up right away.  I really can’t get away from custom shirts it seems.

If you’re on the prowl for a last minute gift, try to make your own tshirts and give them away!  You can design sweatshirts for the whole family to give grandma a break this year, or make some fun and creative Hanukkah custom shirts.  If there’s one thing people love about getting gifts it’s knowing that thought went into them, and nothing says “I love you” like a custom tshirt that says “I love you!”

As a funny aside, the front page of a certain news site I was looking at featured several stories today.  Among them were two, placed right next to each other, that caught my eye.  The first was that North Korea’s leader Kim Jong Il has passed away.  As a result, the whole world, and especially South Korea, is trying to figure out what they will do, and what North Korea will do.  Right next to this was a story (not just a blurb, mind you) about this year’s Kardashian Christmas card.  In case you were biting your nails, yes, it is awesome, and yes, it will be made available in 3-D!!  It’s a Christmas miracle.

We’ve got all sorts of musical interests around here.  I’ve got Sting and Seal coming from somewhere, Christmas punk songs behind me and Drake’s first mixtape bumping on my left.  True to the spirit of Berkeley, we’ve got an eclectic amalgamation of musical tastes.
